My halo slipped to the side a bit. Well, it’s more like I just took it off and slipped it into my back pocket and left it there for a while. Songbird couldn’t believe her ears, and once I’d calmed down, I regretted revealing the sinner behind the saint. At first. That incident, however, helped her see that Jesus had died not just for her, but also for her crazy Mama. Yes, I’m walking with Jesus, but I used to crawl. At that moment, I think I became a real person—the child who stole a Barbie from Roses, a teen who talked back to her own Mama, and a college student who skipped class. Songbird finally grasped all those times I’d told her, “There’s only one woman in this house who’s been where you are and where I am, so trust me. I get it.” Well, Jesus gets it, too. “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15
