“What have you noticed about the past few days?”

Our answers to Hubby’s question this morning—warmer temperatures, people working in the yard, new sprouts, trees budding, sandals and short sleeves—indicated that we see signs spring is around the corner. This led to our discussion of Matthew 24:27-31 and how we believers see and seek our own signs that point to Jesus’ swift, decisive return.

“For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be…Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

While Hubby taught, I worked on breakfast. I had to adapt a recipe from my friend, due to a lack of some ingredients (blueberries, sour cream, and lemons) and an abundance of others (bags of my mama’s frozen strawberries). I replaced the missing sour cream and lemons with about an 8-ounce mixture of key lime and vanilla yogurt and I used mushy, cut-up strawberries instead of blueberries. Also, I baked it in a 13-by-9-inch dish instead of a muffin tin and topped it all with plain old brown sugar. What came out of these blessings and cursings was this crispy-soft strawberry bread that Songbird deemed “birthday worthy.” I just needed to bake it more slowly at a lower temperature, and possibly use a bigger pan. It would also work well as muffins.

During our church service today Pastor Livingston talked about these joys God gives us—worship, family, food, hobbies, and other activities. He told us that “life is to be enjoyed, not endured.” And we can enjoy our life here and eternally by taking to heart Isaiah 43:13:

“Indeed before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who can reverse it?” (Isaiah 43:13)

This “work” is our salvation, and it’s not a loan or a package we carry around until we set it down for a spell, but God’s free gift that is forever ours, for God was, is, and is to come.

Remember to feed your family from God’s table. Blessings on your meal!
